Champions are Made on Rainy Days: BBLS Time Trials

Bainbrook Laurel Springs Pool, OH: Although there has been no rain up as of 9 A.M today, (June 10) the very high chance of precipitation makes this title at least 90% appropriate.

The Stingrays took this “time-tested” slogan to heart this Monday as they braved the pool for Time Trials. During the trials, each swimmer will complete a 50 (or 25, depending on their age) yard swim for each stroke. Upon completion, they will receive a time. Bettering this time becomes a part of their goal for the end of the season.

Time Trials serve as a “starting point” for each swimmer at the start of each season. Since they occur towards the very start of the season, they are the first time a swimmer will get. The next opportunity to get a time for an event doesn’t occur until the Chagrin Relays and the Bainbridge Invitational, both of which are more than a month away. This gives each swimmer plenty of time to practice in order to better their time.

Additionally, time trials are also a great way to foster a competitive environment in practice by allowing swimmers to race against one another. Friendly competition is always a great motivator in any sport, especially during swim practice. This also can help grow friendships on the team, bringing different swimmers together through racing.
